Kari Curletto is a Summerlin performer and artist. She’s worked in the local Las Vegas theater scene playing roles like Belle, in Beauty and the Beast, and also volunteering at Faith Lutheran High School as a Theater mentor and competition judge. She’s organized and performed in several fundraisers, gaining support for Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth. She’s also made her mark as a strange medium artist. She’s created toilet paper wedding gowns that have won national contests and gained global recognition. They are now featured in two Ripley’s Believe it or Not museums. She’s been featured on Good Morning America, To Tell the Truth, and Live with Kelly and Ryan for her creative and designs, costumes and creations. She recently made life sized dancing ballroom ghosts, out of only packing tape and recycled plastics that went viral online. She loves creating and performing in our beautiful Summerlin community, and would welcome any future collaborations with local artists.
My wonderful husband and I have two beautiful children.
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I am currently working as a freelance artist and performer. I used to perform full time, but now I spend most of my time at home with my beautiful family.
Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
For a night out with the hubby, my favorite restaurant is the Vintner. Its ambiance and incredible menu are unmatched. For a night in with the fam, nothing beats a white pizza from Rocco’s New York Pizza! Delicious!
Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
We’ve been in Summerlin nearly 15 years. It has been so good to us. I absolutely love living here.
Q: Who is the most interesting person you've met here in our community?
I’ve met countless incredible people here, but one woman who comes to mind is Holly Weaver. She cofounded the Second Chance 5K, which helps people here in Las Vegas, get back on their feet after addiction. Her ambition and giving nature is truly inspiring.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I would go to Spello Italy. It’s quaint and quiet and Italian food is my weakness.
Q: What advice would you give to people?
Don’t be afraid to fail. I’ve failed far more times than I’ve won. But I’d be nowhere at all if I didn’t try. We learn each and every time we fail. We grow, and come back with greater perspective. So try that new hobby, look silly, fall on your face. Only then will you be able to find your true gifts.
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
Sing the national anthem at a sporting event. I had the chance a couple times but wasn’t able to. I hope someday I can.
Q: What is your favorite quote or saying?
“In a world where you can be anything, be kind.”
Q: What current (or former) local business are you a frequent visitor of in our community?
I love our local Summerlin Libraries! They have so much to offer. I also love, Tiger Lily Floral and the Pure Barre, both small businesses.
Q: If you could choose anyone living today (or has passed) and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would you meet for this lunch?
I adore the artist Christine McConnell. Her work has been a huge inspiration to me. I’d love to pick her brain! I’d take her to the Harlo Steakhouse because the classic decor and slightly gothic feel would make her feel right at home.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
I love that Summerlin has all the amenities of a flashy city, with the warmth of a small town. People care about each-other here. I love the opportunities created to bring us together.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
Hopefully still in Summerlin, maybe running my own theater. Or possibly in Italy chasing that pizza and gelato dream.
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don't know about you?
I’m in the Guinness Book of World Records
Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
The Swiss Alps. The view is breathtaking and the air is pure and sweet.
Q: What local charity/non-profit organization is most near and dear to your heart?
The Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth.
Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
Summerlin’s Libraries
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My beautiful husband and children, every single day
Q: Who is someone you’d like to nominate to be interviewed for The Faces of Summerlin? (Maybe an inspiring teacher or coach, a great student, first responder, active Military or Veteran, local small business owner or unique person in the community that you'd like to see featured? )
Holly Weaver
Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Family, peace, acceptance..
